Valid for Sitecore 5.3
1.  Role Based Descriptions
Prev Next

This section includes high level descriptions of each role, plus the specific features it provides access to.  As mentioned before, all users are automatically assigned the Everyone role.  Likewise, most users should be assigned at least the Authoring role as well.  The roles are meant to be mixed together to match a user's specific needs.  Therefore, there is little overlap between the features provided by each role.  This section helps make sense of what a user will have access to if assigned a given role.

All users are assigned the Everyone role. Therefore, the features described in this section are available for all users.

Nearly all Sitecore users should be assigned the Authoring role, as this role provides basic editing commands.

The Configuring role is intended for users who can change the appearance, valid sub-items, and other attributes of items.

The Developing role adds application shortcuts and commands commonly required by developers.

The Maintaining role is intended for Sitecore super-users and developers.

The Publishing role adds the ability to trigger publish operations.

The Securing role is intended for users who can maintain users and access rights.

The Translating role is intended for content authors who need access to languages other than the site's default language.

Administrators are super-users who have access to all Sitecore features, plus a few special features not available to other users.
